1. What Cell C BlackBerry® 10 service plans can be activated?

The following Cell C BlackBerry® 10 service plans can be activated for all prepaid, TopUp and contract customers in possession of a BlackBerry® 10 device.

2. Can I activate the old BlackBerry® packages on a BlackBerry® 10 device?

The existing Blackberry® Internet Service, Blackberry® Enterprise Service, Blackberry® Social and Blackberry® Social and Email plans are not available for use on new Blackberry 10 smartphones. However, these service plans will still be available for Cell C customers using devices on the old Blackberry Operating System (OS 7.1 and earlier).

Cell C will continue to offer the old BlackBerry Services (Blackberry® Internet Service, Blackberry® Enterprise Service, Blackberry® Social and Blackberry® Social and Email) on the BBOS devices (e.g. 8520, 9320, 8900, 9300, 9790, 9700 etc.)

3. Where can I get a BlackBerry® 10 handset or package?

BlackBerry® 10 handsets, packages and deals are available at all Cell C stores, participating partners and retailers nationwide.

4. How do I activate a Cell C BlackBerry® 10 service plan?

There are various ways you can activate a Cell C BlackBerry® 10 service plan:

  • Dial *147# from your BlackBerry® 10 handset and follow the screen prompts
  • Call Cell C customer care on 140
  • Visit a Cell C store near you. Find all Cell C Stores here

Please note that only one Cell C BlackBerry® 10 service plan can be active or activated on a single Cell C number.

5. Will I be notified when my plan is activated?

Yes. Once a Cell C BlackBerry® 10 service plan has been successfully activated, you will be notified via SMS.

6. Can I deactivate or opt out from my chosen Cell C BlackBerry® 10 service plan?

Yes. You can only deactivate a service plan by calling the Cell C Customer care centre on 140 or visiting a Cell C store near you. You can find all Cell C Stores here

7. I want to move from an old BlackBerry® plan to a Cell C BlackBerry® 10 service plan, how do I do this?

You will first need to deactivate your current service plan (the BlackBerry® Social Plan, BlackBerry® Social and email Plan, BlackBerry® Internet Service Plan or the BlackBerry® Enterprise Service Plan) by calling the Cell C Customer care centre on 140 or visiting a Cell C store near you.

Once your current BlackBerry® Service plan has been de-activated, you can place your SIM card in the new BlackBerry® 10 device and activate a new Cell C BlackBerry® 10 Service Plan.

To activate a Cell C BlackBerry® 10 Service plan dial *147# from your BlackBerry® 10 handset and follow the screen prompts or call Cell C customer care on 140.

8. I want to change my SIM card, how do I do that?

When changing your SIM card to a new one on a BlackBerry® 10 device, you will be required to re-activate your chosen Cell C BlackBerry® 10 Service plan.

To activate a Cell C BlackBerry® 10 Service plan dial *147# from your BlackBerry® 10 handset and follow the screen prompts or call Cell C customer care on 140.

9. Can I roam internationally or call international numbers?

Yes. All current roaming data rates apply when roaming internationally. To view international roaming rates click here

International calls are also allowed on all BlackBerry® 10 devices and all current international calling rates apply. For a list of all international calling countries that you can call for as little as 99c per minute, click here

10. I have depleted the data on the Cell C BlackBerry® 10 service plan. Can I add a data bundle?

Yes. You can add a data bundle for as little as R7.50 by dialling *147# from your BlackBerry® 10 handset and following the screen prompts or by calling Cell C customer care on 140.

11. Will I be told about BlackBerry® 10 software updates?

Yes. You will be notified of the update via the BlackBerry® Hub on your BlackBerry® 10 device.

You can also manually check if the software is available by going to Settings → Software Updates → and select Check for Updates.

Updates to BlackBerry® 10 OS will not incur any data charges while updates to downloaded applications will use the data in the Cell C BlackBerry® 10 service plan or the loaded data bundle.

12. Can I activate a Cell C BlackBerry® 10 service plan with a device that is not Blackberry?

No, the Cell C BlackBerry® 10 service plans have been specifically created for BlackBerry® 10 devices and are not available for other devices.

For other devices you can add data bundles by dialling *147# from your device and following the screen prompts or by calling Cell C customer care on 140.

Terms & Conditions

  1. It is important that you understand and agree to these terms and conditions.
  2. All standard Terms and Conditions of Cell C and Cell C Service Provider apply.
  3. In addition to the BlackBerry Z10 and BlackBerry Q10 smartphone, Cell C will launch three new Cell C BlackBerry 10 service plans:
    1. The “Lite Plan”
    2. The “Essential Plan”
    3. The “Premium Plan”
      (collectively referred to as the “plans”)
  4. The plans include a monthly allocation of DATA and *unlimited BBM. The Premium Plan includes BES10.
    1. BBM includes traditional BBM only (text, file sharing (photos, video clips and voice notes)). New BBM services (video calling and screen sharing) will deplete from the available DATA bundle or will be charged for at the applicable data rate to the tariff plan.
  5. A corporate must have a BES10 server and licenses for its employees to benefit from corporate email, applications and browsing.
  6. The plans above will be available for activation on Cell C Prepaid, Top Up /Hybrid and Postpaid accounts.
  7. The plans for BB10 devices will be available for a “recurring”/ “automatic renewal” and “non-recurring”/ valid for 30 days” activation to Prepaid and Top Up /Hybrid subscribers and for a “recurring” activation only to Postpaid subscribers.
  8. Customers can opt into the products via USSD code by dialing *147# on their handset or via a customer service agent (in store or call centre).
  9. Cell C will continue to offer the current BlackBerry Services on the BBOS devices;

The plans can be activated on the following Cell C tariffs:

Prepaid

  1. The plans can be activated by all RICA compliant Cell C prepaid customers as a value added service (VAS).
  2. To activate plan a customer must be in possession of a BlackBerry10 device.
  3. The plans can be activated for a monthly subscription fee via the usual mechanisms (USSD *147#, 140, 145 and at store)
  4. External Service Provider customers (Nashua and Auto page) are restricted from activating a Cell C BB10 service plan via USSD *147#. They can only activate a BB10 plan via a XSP Customer service agent or at an XSP store
  5. Only one plan can be active or activated on a single line/MSISDN. Once the plan has expired a customer may load another plan of their choice via the channels above
  6. “Once-off/non-recurring service” and “monthly recurring/automatic renewal(Prepaid): Current BIS rules
    1. The monthly subscription of the BB10 plans will be deducted from the customers available Prepaid airtime balance in real time
    2. The validity period of the service is 30 days from date of activation

Top Up (Control Chat customers and Straight Up Top Up customers)

  1. The plans can be activated by all RICA compliant Cell C Top Up/Hybrid customers as value added services (VAS).
  2. To activate a plan a customer must be in possession of a BlackBerry10 device.
  3. The plans can be activated for a monthly subscription fee via the usual mechanisms (USSD *147#, 140, 145 and at a store).
  4. Only one plan for BB10 devices can be active or activated on a single line/MSISDN. Once the plan has expired a customer may load another plan/ package of their choice via the channels listed above.
  5. The plans can be opted into as a “once-off/non-recurring” and “automatic renewal”/ recurring” value added services

    1. Top Up customers can activate the plans using their available Prepaid airtime balance.
    2. The validity period of the plan is 30 days from date of activation
  7. Monthly-recurring service for (Top Up /Hybrid): Current BIS rules
    1. The plan subscription fee will be billed to the customer’s statement monthly
    2. The recurring subscription fee for the plans and in bundle DATA that comes with the plans will be prorated for the first month of activation if a subscriber subscribes to the service during the course of the month.
    3. The current monthly subscription fees, monthly benefits (e.g. monthly minutes/SMS/data) business rules governing the Control Chat and Straight Up packages will apply if a customer activates a plan.
    4. Customers can opt out of the VAS via a customer service agent.
    5. Existing subscription fees paid by customers, monthly benefits (monthly minutes/airtime , data and SMS’s) received and business rules governing the legacy Control Chat/Top Upand Straight Up Top Up tariff plans will apply.

Postpaid (Legacy Postpaid and Straight Up Postpaid customers)

  1. 1The plans can be activated by all RICA compliant existing Legacy Post Paid and new and existing Straight Up Postpaid customers not subscribed to a BlackBerry deal already To access the BlackBerry services a customer must be in possession of a BlackBerry 10 device.
  2. 2The plans can be activated for a monthly fee via the usual mechanisms (USSD *147#, 140, 145 and at store):
  3. Only one plan can be active or activated on a single line/MSISDN.
  4. Postpaid customers must have a sufficient credit limit to activate a plan.
  5. The plans can only be activated as “monthly recurring”/auto-“renewal” packages on Post-paid tariff plans.
  6. The subscription fee for the plan will be billed to the customer’s statement monthly.
  7. The recurring plan subscription fee and in bundle DATA that comes with the packages will be prorated for the first month of activation if a subscriber subscribes to the plan during the course of the month
  8. The current monthly subscription fees, monthly benefits (e.g. monthly minutes/SMS/data) business rules governing the SU Postpaid and Legacy Postpaid packages will apply if a customer activates a plan.
  9. Customers can opt out of the plans via a customer service agent.
  10. Existing subscription fees paid by subscribers , monthly benefits (monthly minutes/airtime , data and SMS’s) received and business rules governing the legacy Postpaid and Straight Up tariff plans will apply.

Migrations:

  1. Migration from BBOS device (E.g. 8520, 9300, 8900, 9900 etc) to BB10
  2. A customer that migrates from a BBOS device and has a BlackBerry Internet Service, BlackBerry Enterprise Service, BlackBerry Social and Email Plan and BlackBerry Social Plan(legacy service) loaded on their account must remove/deactivate the legacy service before they can successfully activate a plan.
  3. Customers can deactivate a BB service via the Cell C Customer Service centre or an agent at a Cell C branded stores, retail store or XSP (Nashua, Auto page) store.
  4. Migration from BB10 to BBOS devices
  5. A customer that migrates from a BB10 handset and has a plan loaded on their account must remove/deactivate the BB10 plan before they can successfully activate a legacy service (BIS, BES, BSS and BSE) on BBOS device.
  6. Customers can deactivate a BB10 Package via the Cell C Customer Service Centre or an agent at a Cell C branded stores, retail store or XSP (Nashua, Auto page) store only.
  7. For BB10 contracts/deals current Cell C migration rules apply.

Deactivation/Opt Out:

  1. Prepaid and Top Up customers that de-activate a “non-recurring/ 30 day validity” Cell C BB10 Plan prior to the 30 day expiration date will keep the unlimited BBM and DATA benefits for the remaining duration of the current 30 day period.
  2. Top Up and Postpaid customers : The recurring service if deactivated will be valid with the inclusive data until the end of the calendar month for postpaid and top up
  3. Customers can only opt out of the service plans by instructing a customer service agent to deactivate the plan (Customer service agent at a Cell C branded store, Retail store , XSP store or call centre)

BES 10:

  1. The BES10 Server and licenses give customers and corporates access to corporate email, corporate browsing and corporate applications
  2. All DATA usage restricted by the BES server will be charged/billed for and will deplete from the allocated 2GB data bundle

Exclusions:

  1. BB OS handsets (Legacy handsets e.g 9320, 9300, 9900, etc)
    1. BB0S handsets are excluded from activating the plans. The benefits of the plans can only be received by BB10 customers.
  2. The benefits of the Cell C BB10 plans should not be received where the customers removes the SIM and places it into a non BB10 devices “off BB 10 device”. Cell C reserves the right to cancel the service as it is not used for its intended purposes.
  3. All other devices (iPhone, Samsung, Nokia etc.)
  4. Virgin Mobile
    1. Virgin Mobile customers are excluded from activating and receiving the benefits of the Cell C plans.
  5. The plans are not be available for activation to customers of BB OS devices
    1. Customers with BB OS devices can still activate :BIS57, BES114, BSE37, BSS27
  6. XSP customers CANNOT activate plans via USSD string; however they can activate the BB10 plans via the XSP contact centre or in store.
  7. New BBM services (video calling and screen sharing) are not included (free/Unlimited); these services will deplete from the available DATA bundle or will be charged for at the applicable data rate.

  • All prices shown include VAT, unless otherwise stated.
  • All standard Terms and Conditions of Cell C and Cell C Service Provider apply. In this regard, existing subscription fees paid by contract subscribers, monthly benefits (monthly airtime and SMS’s) received and the Terms and Conditions governing the packages shall remain applicable.
  • To successfully use the BlackBerry Social Plan, BlackBerry Social & Email plan, BlackBerry Internet Service or the BlackBerry Enterprise Service, you must be a new or existing Cell C subscriber with a BlackBerry handset, which is not exclusive to any network operator.
  • The BlackBerry Social Plan costs R27.00 (incl. VAT) per month.
  • The Blackberry Social and Email Plan costs R37.00 (incl. VAT) per month.
  • The BIS costs R57.00 (incl. VAT) per month.
  • The BES costs R114.00 (incl. VAT) per month.
  • BlackBerry DATA traffic generated through the blackberry.net APN will be zero-rated.
  • Subscribers can opt into any BlackBerry service plan by dialling *147# on their handset or via a Cell C agent in store or via the Cell C call centre.
  • These BlackBerry service plans are available for a “once off service” valid for 30 days from date of activation to Prepaid and Control Chat/Top Up subscribers:

Prepaid

  • A customer must have sufficient airtime balance to activate any of the BlackBerry service plans. An amount of R27 - R114 (inclusive of VAT) will be deducted from the customers available airtime balance (based on the customers chosen BlackBerry Service Plan cost)
  • The chosen BlackBerry service plan will be valid for 30 days from date of activation
  • A customer must have a sufficient airtime balance when activating the service
  • Only one Blackberry Service can be active or activated on a single cellphone number. Once the Blackberry Service has expired a customer may load a new BlackBerry Service plan of their choice.
  • The current benefits and the business rules of the existing prepaid package will remain applicable.
  • The existing Prepaid DATA rates will apply for data usage through the internet .net APN and not on the blackberry.net APN
  • Customers that de-activate a BlackBerry service plan prior to the 30 days expiration date will lose all the chosen BlackBerry service plan benefits with immediate effect.
  • A customer wanting to opt out of any chosen BlackBerry service plan can opt out via a Cell C agent in store or via the Cell C call centre by dialing 140.

TopUp

  • A customer must have sufficient airtime balance to activate the chosen BlackBerry Service Plan. An amount of R27 – R114 (inclusive of VAT) will be deducted from the customers available airtime balance (based on the customers chosen BlackBerry Service Plan cost)
  • The chosen BlackBerry Service Plan will be valid for 30 days from date of activation
  • A customer must have a sufficient airtime balance when activating the service
  • Only one Blackberry Service can be active or activated on a single cellphone number. Once the Blackberry Service has expired a customer may load a new BlackBerry Service of their choice.
  • Existing subscription fees paid by subscribers, monthly benefits (monthly minutes/airtime, data and SMS's) received and business rules governing the TopUp packages will remain applicable.
  • The existing Cell C TopUp data rates will apply for any data usage in the Cell C internet APN and not on the blackberry.net APN.
  • A customer wanting to opt out of any chosen BlackBerry service plan can opt out via a Cell C agent in store or via the Cell C call centre by dialing 140.

Data Charges

  • Streaming live data such as audio and video streaming will not be allowed on the blackberry.net APN and the customer may incur additional data charges. In this regard, the existing Cell C data rates will apply for any downloading and streaming as this will take place on the Internet.net APN and not on the blackberry.net APN.
  • When using the BlackBerry device as a tethered modem or a SIM with the Blackberry Service in a dongle, you will have to use the Internet.net APN (Access Point Name) and you will be charged in addition to the chosen BlackBerry service plan subscription fee. The existing Cell C data rates will be charged to the subscriber when using BlackBerry device as a tethered modem. The subscriber will also be charged the existing Cell C data rates when using the SIM with a Blackberry service in a dongle.

Typically functions that will use Carrier/Cell C APN and will result in DATA charges:

  • RTSP protocol (e.g. YouTube streaming)
  • 3rd party apps that choose to use Carrier /Cell C APN (this is outside of RIM's control
  • Browsing where the user has manually selected the WAP Browser as the default (BB software version 3.x->5.0 only)
  • Browsing where the user is not provisioned for BIS-Browsing and is not configured on a BES
  • Internet Tethering (Using Device as a Modem)
  • Mobile Wi-Fi Hotspot (only available in V7.1 and newer)
  • Cell C Xplorer Application

Roaming and International dialing:

  • Data rates stipulated in our bilateral agreement with our international roaming partners will apply when roaming with a Blackberry Service loaded onto an account.
  • International dialing is applicable to all Cell C customers (prepaid, TopUp and postpaid).

SIM swap:

  • Service benefits are retained when doing a SIM SWAP.

3rd Party Applications:

Applications developed by 3rd party developers may not have their applications running over the blackberry.net APN. Cell C cannot guarantee that the usage of downloadable applications from Blackberry App World will run across the blackberry.net APN (and be included in the monthly Service fee) and additional data charges may be incurred. Customers will be required to contact the developer of the application to query whether their data will be directed via the blackberry.net APN or not.

Data Fair Usage Policy:

You understand and agree to the following:

  • Your data usage is subject to a fair use limit, which shall be determined in our sole discretion and communicated to you upon your request and/or from time to time as determined by us;
  • In cases of high usage, we reserve the right to charge you for the extra usage, suspend the BlackBerry Services temporarily, throttle your DATA speeds and/or possibly close your account. Before we suspend the BlackBerry Services and/or possibly close your account, we will notify you and give you 20 Working Days to lower your usage. If you do not lower your usage within those 20 Working Days, we may suspend the BlackBerry Services temporarily and/or possibly close your account;
  • Media streaming, including the streaming of internet radio, contributes to your use of bandwidth and may, if left permanently on, cause you to be in breach of this fair use policy.
  • Cell C has the right to change or modify these Terms and Conditions at any time without notice. The obligation therefore is on you to review these Terms and Conditions at regular intervals.
  • This is a service provided by Cell C to its subscribers for convenience purposes only.
  • Software downloads effected by subscribers are done at the subscribers’ own risk, and accordingly, Cell C gives no guarantees in this regard.
  • Cell shall not be held responsible for any loss or damage of any kind (including loss of information or data) whatsoever suffered or incurred by any subscriber or any third party as a result of the subscriber downloading the software and the subscriber indemnifies Cell C against any such claim.
