Cell C is going next generation

Mobile network operator, Cell C today announced that it will be investing R5 billion in the next year to expand its network coverage and rollout a high-speed broadband offering using HSPA+ technologies with download speeds of up to 21Mbit/s.

Cell C CEO Lars P Reichelt says that the company will be a significant broadband player in the market, offering state-of-the-art technologies at very high speeds.

"Currently the fastest 3G networks in South Africa offer speeds of 7,2Mbit/s. Cell C's network will offer download speeds that are three times faster than what is available in market today."

He says Cell C is still in negotiations with equipment manufacturers to build its HSPA+ network and more detail about its rollout plans will be made public early in 2010.
