Cell C’s new network comes out tops in an independent speed test

The results of a survey released today show that, when it comes to speed, it’s hard to beat Cell C’s supersonic new HSPA+ network, which is currently being rolled out across major cities in South Africa.

The 2010 Broadband Survey, conducted by well-respected news site MyBroadband, found that Cell C offers the highest local download and upload speeds, clocking in at 7.21 Mbps and 2.01 Mbps respectively. Cell C’s local download speeds were on average 20% faster than the second-ranked broadband offering, and the upload speeds were 300% faster.

The survey found that Cell C offers the highest local download and upload speeds, as well as the fastest upload speed internationally

In addition, Cell C achieved an international download speed of 2.47 Mbps (third place overall) and an upload speed of 1.03 Mbps (first place overall).

A total of 1908 participants were asked to rate their broadband service according to a variety of criteria including support, service levels and overall satisfaction, as well as complete 2 web-based speed tests to record their speeds.  These tests used the Speedtest.net servers.
