Smartdata Bundles

You've got stronger surfing thanks to our new H+900 network. Now we're giving you the choice of seven different data bundles so that you can buy only as much data as you need, and not a bit or byte more.

Our data bundles are available to all contract customers and are designed to fit the needs of low, medium and high data users. 



How to purchase your Smartdata bundle:

On your wap enabled cellphone and your USB Speed Stick:

  • Dial *147#, select option 2 and follow the prompts
  • Call 140
  • Visit your nearest Cell C store

On your Cell C Speed Stick:

  • Select services, enter *147#, select option 2 and follow the prompts

  • Contract Smartdata bundles are recurring for 30 days until cancelled. Should you wish to deactivate or cancel a Smartdata bundle, you will be required to contact an agent (call centre/store agent) to “Opt Out” of a postpaid Smartdata bundle. The existing cancellation rules shall apply.
 
Smartdata Bundles - Terms and Conditions

  • All prices shown include VAT
  • The Smartdata bundles may be purchased / activated by new and existing prepaid and controlchat customers.
  • The Cell C Easy Chat prepaid and ControlChat tariff plan and business rules apply.  These can be found at www.cellc.co.za or at a Cell C store
  • All standard Terms and Conditions of Cell C (Pty) Ltd and Cell C Service Provider (Pty) Ltd apply.  These Terms and Conditions can be found at www.cellc.co.za/about/documents or a Cell C store
  • Your connection speed will depend on the speed stick/device used, the coverage in your area and the network conditions. Visit http://www.cellc.co.za/coveragemap for the Cell C coverage map or call the call centre on 084147 for general assistance, or ask in a Cell C store
  • Smartdata bundles of the same denomination cannot be loaded on a single line/number simultaneously.  This means that if you load 100MB Smartdata bundle on your account, you cannot load another 100MB Smartdata bundle until your initial 100MB Smartdata bundle has depleted or expired. However customers can purchase more than one Smartdata bundle of different denominations for that single line.
  • Prepaid and controlchat customers must have sufficient airtime balance to successfully purchase/activate a Smartdata bundle.
  • In the event that a prepaid or controlchat customer has more than one active Smartdata bundle on a single line, usage will be deducted from the oldest data bundle first.
  • All five (5) data bundles are valid for 30 days from the date of purchase. Smartdata bundles will expire at 23h59:59 on the 30th day after activation.
  • Smartdata bundles do not auto-renew and prepaid and controlchat customers will need to purchase a new Smartdata bundle on expiry / depletion.
  • Purchased Smartdata bundles cannot be cancelled i.e. a prepaid or controlchat customer cannot purchase/activate a Smartdata bundle and then call in to ask for a cancellation or refund.
  • Smartdata bundle purchase information will appear on the itemised bill for controlchat customers (who have selected to receive an Itemised Bill)
  • Data may not and cannot be transferred from one user to another or converted into Rand value.
  • Upon expiration there shall be no rollover of unused data to the following month or year.
  • If the bundle is depleted prior to the expiration date, ongoing data usage will be charged at the rate applicable to the tariff plan.
  • Cell C reserves the right at any time to vary these terms and conditions or to withdraw the Smartdata bundles should it be required to do as a result of and law or any changes to the law. In such event, it is important that all postpaid subscribers who have activated the Smartdata bundles understand that they waive any rights that they may have against Cell C andacknowledge that they will have no recourse or claim of any nature whatsoever against Cell C, their directors, affiliates, members, partners, employees, sponsors, agents or consultants.

Fair use policy

By accepting our terms and conditions, you agree to be bound by this policy.


Your data usage is subject to a fair use limit, which shall be determined in Cell C’s sole discretion and communicated to you upon your request and/or from time to time as determined by Cell C.


If you only occasionally have very high usage, Cell C is unlikely to be concerned. Cell C shall determine in its sole discretion what “occasionally” means in this instance. If very high usage happens regularly, Cell C will notify you. In cases of high usage Cell C reserves the right to charge you for the extra usage, reduce the speed of your connection, suspend your service temporarily and/or possibly close your account.

It is worthwhile to note that media streaming, including the streaming of internet radio contributes to your use of bandwidth and may, if left permanently on, cause you to be in breach of this policy.

Cell C reserves the right to change this fair usage policy at any time. Changes shall become effective once the revised version is published on www.cellc.co.za. Your continued use of our service after the revised version has been published shall constitute your acceptance to be bound by the terms and conditions of the revised fair usage policy.

 
Return and refund policy

Welcome to Cell C's H+900 network!

We're confident that we are offering a superior service, but should you not be satisfied for whatever reason, we have put a fourteen-day return and refund policy in place.

The following conditions apply:

  • The Data Product is returned to the original point of purchase within 14 calendar days from the date of purchase
  • The original proof of purchase is presented
  • The complete unit is in its original packaging: including SIM card, USB Speed Stick, accessories and manuals
  • There are no visible signs of liquid or physical damage
  • Damaged Data Products will be rejected by Cell C. The channel will be notified and the Data Product will be returned to the specific store
  • IMEI Number on the packaging matches the USB Speed Stick IMEI Number
  • The return and refund policy only applies when Data Products are purchased from Cell C approved outlets
  • Only Data Products supplied by Cell C during the promotional period will be considered for a refund
  • The return and refund policy only applies for the duration of the promotional period
  • You need a valid bank account to receive the refund

Pre-paid terms and conditions

  • Remember that you have to register (RICA) your starter pack in order to get your new cellular number and activate your starter pack.
  • Once your SIM card has been registered (RICA), you can enter your PIN number and your Cell C SIM will be connected! Your first outgoing data session will activate the Cell C Network access timer and will allow you to make and receive calls and send and receive SMSs.
  • All internet surfing, SMSs sent and any other access charges will be charged in accordance with the rates available from time to time on www.cellc.mobi or www.cellc.co.za.
  • Cell C is under no obligation to render any account in respect of the usage of credit values and/or the period of access to the network or any other information in respect of call records and/or recharges.
  • Cell C makes no guarantee, warranty or representation howsoever in relation to the Cell C prepaid SIM pack, SIM card, any recharge vouchers or the Cell C Network.
  • Cell C reserves the right, in its sole discretion, to change any of the time periods referred to herein.
  • If required, as a result of changes in legislation, or for any other reason, Cell C shall have the right to terminate this starter SIM pack immediately and without notice to you.  In the event of such termination, you agree to waive any rights that you may have in terms of this promotion and acknowledge that they will have no recourse against Cell C, its directors, agents, employees and promoters.
  • Cell C shall be entitled to vary, replace or revoke the benefits of the starter SIM pack in its sole and absolute discretion, without notice to you and you shall be deemed to have accepted such amendments.
  • Risk in and to any items contained in the starter SIM pack, or any recharge vouchers shall pass on delivery, therefore Cell C shall have no liability for any item which is lost or stolen.
  • Do not accept any recharge voucher if the seal has been broken or tampered with.
  • Report to the police within 24 hours, and notify Cell C in the event of losing your SIM card and/or cellphone/dongle. A lost SIM card can be replaced by a SIM swop at applicable rates (cost will be on Cell C’s website, www.cellc.mobi or www.cellc.co.za) . To secure the same cell number, an ID document and the original certificate containing the SIM Card Registration Number and PIN number must be presented to an authorised dealer.
  • Cell C reserves the right to suspend the prepaid service or any part thereof or to disconnect the SIM card from the Cell C Network in the event of any unlawful use of the prepaid service or any unlawful or unauthorized tampering with or modification to the USB modem or SIM card.
  • Any dispute relating to the Cell C Network may be referred to the Independent Communications Authority of South Africa (ICASA).
  • To the extent permitted by legislation, Cell C reserves the right to contact you for marketing, promotional and other Cell C services.
  • Whilst every effort has been made by Cell C and its suppliers of information to ensure the proper performance of every content service, Cell C, its affiliated companies, suppliers or any of their employees do not guarantee the availability of services, content and information offered. In particular we make no warranty that the content services will meet your requirements, be uninterrupted, complete, timely, secure or error free.
  • We will only entertain request for exchanges, returns and/or refunds at our discretion. Errors will be billed in full.
  • By using Cell C services you indemnify and hold us harmless against all and any loss, liability, actions, suits, proceedings, costs, demands and damages of all and every kind (including direct, indirect, special or consequential damages) and whether in action based on contract, negligence or any other action, arising out of or in connection with the failure or delay in the performance of content services offered or the use of said services.
  • The purchase of this Cell C prepaid starter SIM pack and/or the use of any recharge vouchers constitutes acceptance of these terms & conditions.

USB SPEED STICKS
We recommend that you use the data SIM with the Cell C approved USB Modem you received with your package. If you choose to use another modem please ensure that it is capable of UMTS 900MHz. In addition, to achieve the highest possible speed, your modem should support HSPA+.

  • You cannot have more than one (1) Smartdata bundle activated on a single line.  In other words, only one Smartdata bundle per line.
  • You will be required to first cancel your existing Smartdata bundle should you wish to activate another Smartdata bundle.
  • SmartData bundles are recurring until cancelled
  • Smartdata bundles are valid from 00h00:00 on the 1st of the month until 23h59:59 on the last calendar day of the month.
  • Smartdata bundles are applied on a monthly basis from the time that you have requested the service
  • Smartdata bundles that are activated during the course of the month will be pro-rated in respect of the subscription costs and bundle size in the first month of subscription. Standard pro-rating rules shall apply.
  • Data may not and cannot be transferred from one user to another or converted into Rand value.
  • Upon expiration there shall be no rollover of unused data to the following month.
  • If the bundle is depleted prior to the expiration date, ongoing data usage will be charged at the same rate as applicable to the seleted data bundle.

Contract terms and conditions

SIGNING UP IS EASY WITH CELL C
Step 1: Visit your closest store and complete a Subscriber Agreement form. Remember to have the following with you:
    - South African ID/passport
    - Proof of residence
    - Latest proof of income
    - Detailed, latest 3 months bank statements
Step 2: Register your details for RICA (using the same documents as above)

RULES AND BENEFITS
• The contract is valid for 12 months
• Customers will receive:
    - a Cell C SIM card
    - applicable USB dongle and
    - 2GB/5GB data per month over 12 months
• 2GB or 5GB data (depending on your promotion) is allocated on a monthly basis, over 12 months
• Data allocated (and the subscription fee) in the first month will be pro-rated according to the number
of days remaining in the month
• On the 1st of every subsequent month, a new 2GB or 5GB is allocated for that month
• There is no carry-over of any unused data from one month to the following month
• The included data is applicable to local usage only (i.e while in South Africa), international data roaming
usage will be charged directly to your bill
• If you deplete your monthly data allocation before the end of the month, you can keep surfing at our out of bundle rate (39c per MB)
• This additional usage will be billed to your next bill
- Monthly allocated data is always depleted first (before any charges are levied to your account)
- Charges are rounded up to the nearest cent per session
- For any session, the first incremental minimal charge will be 2c
• Data will be billed, or depleted from your allocated bundle, in 10kb increments
• The same tariff and included data bundle will apply to GPRS/EDGE/3G/HSPA+ speeds
• Data cannot be transferred from one user to another or converted into Rand value
• At the end of the 12 month contract term you will have a choice of migration (to any of the Cell C data
offerings available at that time) or termination

USB SPEED STICKS
We recommend that you use the data SIM with the Cell C approved USB Modem you received with your package. If you choose to use another modem please ensure that it is capable of UMTS 900MHz. In addition, to achieve the highest possible speed, your modem should support HSPA+.

  • Bundles can be purchased by customers of all service providers. Cell C SP and XSP customers

Purchase / Activation:

  • Customers activating data bundles must automatically be provisioned for data (i.e. 3G on the applicable network elements)
  • Customers will need the correct Cell C GPRS settings to use data on their handsets. The standard processes for sending / receiving settings applies
  • For Cell C SP customers bundles can be added by going in-store or via the call centre. NO USSD activation
  • The cost of the bundle will be added to the customer’s bill
  • Bundles are billed in advance
  • Bundles activated during the course of the month will be pro-rated for subscription and bundle size. Standard pro-rating rules apply
  • Only one bundle can be active/provisioned per line at any given time
  • Customers can activate BOTH SMS and data bundles on the same line
  • Bundles can only be loaded on accounts / lines which are active and NOT accounts which suspended / in arrears.(as per current rules and processes)
  • Customers will receive a confirmation SMS upon a successful data bundle activation

Usage:

  • Data usage is deducted from the bundle first where there is a positive balance.
  • The included data is applicable to all data usage within SA (i.e. on Cell C’s network and while roaming nationally on Vodacom)
  • The included data is NOT applicable to international data roaming – this will be charged at the applicable data roaming rate for that country and operator
  • Once the bundle is depleted customers will receive, on a daily basis an SMS advising them of their current balance. The SMS will state “ As of dd/mm/yyy, your unbilled account balance is RXXXX”

Validity, expiry and migration:

  • Bundles are valid from 00h00:00 on the 1st of the month until 23h59:59 on the last calendar day of the month
  • Bundles are applied on a monthly basis from the time the customer has requested this service
  • The existing cancellation rules for data bundles apply
  • A Customers can migrate to bigger or smaller bundles , provided that the existing cancellation rules are adhered to
  • Customers migrating “up” or “down” from their existing tariff plan to a different tariff plan, will lose their data bundle with immediate effect.

Rollover:

  • There is no rollover of unused MB to the following month
  • Data bundles cannot be transferred from one customer to another
  • There is no transfer of MB to Rand Value

Exclusions:

  • No USSD activation of data bundles for contract customers
  • Data included in the bundle is not transferrable

Support:

  • The Call Centre is able to assist customers with general queries regarding; bundle activation date, current balance, cancellation and migration
