DATA

What is LTE?

Cell C understands that our customers require faster, more efficient and higher quality mobile DATA services and are proud to have launched our LTE network to bring super-fast speeds to our customers.

LTE or Long Term Evolution is a high-speed wireless broadband technology evolved from 3G. LTE is sometimes referred to as 4G

What makes LTE better than 3G?

Basically LTE offers customers faster upload and download speeds and well as better response times, 3G on steroids!

What does this mean?

  • Upload and download speed is up to 3 times faster
  • Downloading large files, such as movies, music, applications and games will be faster
  • Uploading attachments to emails will be much quicker
  • Latency or delay is reduced by up to 10 times
  • Video streaming quality will improve significantly

Overall this means a better, faster, more stable connection for our customers. No more delays!

LTE Coverage

We will be rolling out coverage to the areas below by the end of December 2012:

  • Sandton
  • Pretoria
  • Cape Town
  • Durban

LTE coverage will be updated through 2013, click here for our LTE coverage maps.

How to access LTE?

Generally to access the LTE network, customers need; a device that supports LTE, a LTE enabled SIM card and to be in a LTE coverage area.

For the launch only customers who purchase one of our LTE Launch offers and who use it in a LTE coverage area will be able to access LTE.

We are currently only offering DATA on our LTE network, there is no voice, SMS, or USSD available. These services are available from the LTE SIM but the device being used must be switched from LTE to 3G.

What happens when you move out of a LTE coverage area?

There is a seamless, automatic handover from LTE to 3G or 2G, so you never lose your connection.  In actual fact customers will have access to the internet on the Cell C 3.5G, 3G and 2.5G networks.
