    Cell C has agreements with foreign networks all over the world, and they charge high rates for the services that they allow Cell C customers to use. What's more, these charges are affected by the exchange rate.

    No, data bundles are not valid when you travel overseas. All data roaming usage will be charged at the out-of-bundle rate of the foreign networks you're using.

KEEPING YOUR DATA ROAMING BILL LOW


  • If you are using mobile data services when roaming, ensure that you manually select the network with the lowest data roaming rates. Indicative rates can be found here for the indicative rates.
  • Automatic and service downloads that are usually cheap or free in South Africa will be charged for while roaming (emails, weather updates, RSS feeds, Windows updates, software updates, etc.).
  • Twitter, Facebook, WhatsApp and other apps, use data and will be charged for at a per MB rate while roaming, as per the foreign network charges.

DATA COST-SAVING TIPS


  • Turn off your data services if you don't want to use them overseas.
  • Make sure that none of your apps will override your data roaming settings and turn your data back on.
  • Use Wi-Fi hotspots when available. Many airports, hotels, retail stores, shopping malls, conference centres and office blocks have free Wi-Fi.
  • If you do need to access the Internet or GPS services outside of Wi-Fi hotspots, turn data roaming on only when you are using it, and remember to manually select the network with the lowest data roaming rates.
  • Switch off all free services that you subscribe to which are delivered using mobile date, example WhatsApp, email, news, Twitter and Facebook notifications.
  • Download a data usage monitoring app. There are many available from the App Store or Google Play Store.

Cell C has partnered with over xxx roaming partners in xxx countries around the world to keep you in contact wherever you go. That way, whether you are travelling for business or pleasure, it's easy to stay connected and never miss an important call or mobile notification, as you keep your Cell C number.

Prepaid and Top-Up Roaming Service is available upon re-activation on Cell C network. The re-activation of Service must be done at least 2 Hours prior to leaving the Cell C network or using the foreign network.

WI-FI CALLING ROAMING BENEFITS


Cell C is also the first South African Operator to offer Wi-Fi Calling. This means, when you travel abroad, you can simply use Wi-Fi Calling on any Wi-Fi network, and only get charged local rates. Click here to find out more about it.

The Service is available by Default with Voice, SMS and Data to all Prepaid and Top-Up Cell C customers to use in certain participating countries and network operators.

  • To de-activate Voice and SMS Service, dial *106*3#
  • To re-activate Voice and SMS Service, dial *106*2#
  • To re-activate and or de-activate Data Service, customers must call +2784135 OR 135 from Cell C SIM to get assistance.

1All calls made while roaming will be charged to your Cell C mobile phone account in South Africa.
