How do I check if my Android device supports eSIM?

eSIM compatibility on Android devices can vary depending on the manufacturer, model, region, and carrier settings.

Android is an open-source operating system, which means manufacturers and carriers can customize it. As a result, some versions of the same device may not include eSIM functionality.

Follow the steps below to check if your Android device is eSIM-compatible. Please keep in mind that the steps may vary depending on your device. For the most accurate information, contact your device manufacturer, vendor, or primary carrier.

On Samsung Galaxy devices:

Open the Settings app, then tap Connections. Tap SIM Manager. If Add eSIM is available, your device likely supports eSIMs.

On Google Pixel devices:

Open the Settings app, then tap Network & internet. Tap the + sign beside SIMs. If the Connect to mobile network page has a "Download a SIM instead?" option, your device is eSIM-compatible.

On other Android devices:

DIAL *#06# and press the Call button. If your device is eSIM-compatible, you should be able to view your device's eSIM unique identification number (EID).

Your device also must be carrier-unlocked to use an eSIM. This allows you to use multiple SIMs/eSIMs from different carriers.

To check if your Android device is unlocked:

Remove your current SIM card. Insert a SIM card from a different carrier. The carrier name at the top of your screen should change. Try placing a call.

If the call connects, your device is unlocked. If the call doesn't go through, or you see a message saying the device is locked, it's still tied to your original carrier.

If you're still unsure about eSIM compatibility, it's best to confirm with your device manufacturer, vendor, or primary carrie

Can I make phone calls or send SMS with my eSIM?

Whether you can make phone calls or send SMS with your eSIM depends on whether it is a data-only or data, voice & text eSIM.

You can find out what kind of plan an eSIM supports by selecting the eSIM and referencing the Product description section. There, you'll see a Coverage section that includes the Plan type.

If the plan type is Data only, you will not be able to place calls and texts (SMS). However, you can use internet-based calls and messaging services (e.g., WhatsApp). If you plan to use third-party apps for calling and texting, ensure they are set up before you use your eSIM.

If the plan type is Data, Voice & Text, your eSIM comes with call and text messaging services. The Data/Calls/Texts tab at the top of the screen shows how many calling minutes and SMS messages the eSIM includes.

How can I check my current data usage?

You can find your current data usage in your account and device settings.

  • Log in to your account.

What should I do if the eSIM is stuck activating on my iOS device?

If your eSIM shows "activating" or "activation failure" on your iOS device, don’t worry — this is a common issue, especially if you've installed the eSIM before arriving at your destination.

Even if it looks like it's stuck, the eSIM is fully installed on your device. The activation will complete automatically once you arrive at your destination country/region and are within the network coverage area.

When can I install my eSIM?

When you can install your eSIM depends on the eSIM's activation policy.

  • Most eSIMs activate only when you arrive at your destination and connect to a supported local network.
  • Some eSIMs activate immediately upon installation, no matter where you are.
  • Before installing your eSIM, check the activation policy listed in the eSIM's technical details. This will help you avoid activating it too early.

How do I know when my eSIM will activate?

You can find this information in your eSIM's activation policy.

Before purchase:

  1. Go to My eSIMs in your account.
  2. Select the eSIM that suits your needs.
  3. Go to Product description to view the activation policy.

After purchase:

  1. Search for the country you're traveling to.
  2. Tap See more details to view the activation policy.

The activation policy will state one of the following:

  • "The validity period starts when the eSIM connects to any supported network(s)": You can install the eSIM before traveling without activating it. The validity period will only begin once you arrive at your destination and connect to a supported network. Just make sure you've completed the setup steps on the eSIM installation page, then turn on your eSIM line when you're ready to connect.
  • "The validity period starts upon installation": The eSIM will activate immediately upon installation, even if you're not yet at your destination. This means the validity period begins as soon as it's installed, so be sure to time the installation accordingly

How do I change my APN settings?

The APN (Access Point Name) is what your device uses to connect to the internet. Some eSIMs require you to manually update your APN settings to access mobile data.

If APN settings are needed for your eSIM, you can find them by going to My eSIMs > View installation instructions > Manual.

If no APN is shown, it means the APN is automatically configured.

Please follow these steps to set up an APN:

On iOS

  1. Go to Settings on your device.
  2. Tap Cellular/Mobile Data.
  3. Select your eSIM under Cellular/Mobile Data Plans.
  4. Tap Cellular/Mobile Data Network.
  5. Enter the APN exactly as shown in the eSIM installation details (all lowercase and without spaces) into the Cellular/Mobile Data APN field.
  6. You can leave the other fields blank.

On Android

  1. Go to Settings on your device.
  2. Tap Network & internet.
  3. Tap Mobile network.
  4. Tap Access Point Names.
  5. Enter the APN exactly as shown in the eSIM installation details (all lowercase and without spaces) into the APN field.
  6. You can leave the other fields blank.

How can I top up an eSIM?

Only rechargeable eSIMs can be topped up. You can check if an eSIM is rechargeable by going to the Product description section and viewing Add-ons before purchase.

Here's how to top up an eSIM if you run out of data:

  1. Log in to your account.
  2. Go to My eSIMs.
  3. Select the eSIM you want to top up.
  4. Select a top-up package from the Buy Top-up Packages section.
  5. Complete checkout.

If there is no Buy Top-up Packages section, the eSIM is not rechargeable. In this case, you will need to purchase a new eSIM to stay connected.

Note: If your purchased top-up does not activate automatically, please follow the steps below:

  • Restart your phone after topping up the service.
  • Turn airplane mode on and off to recover the connection.

When does my eSIM data package expire?

Your eSIM package expires when either the validity period ends or the data is fully used — whichever comes first.

The validity period begins when the eSIM is activated. For most eSIMs, activation happens when you connect to a supported network at your destination. However, some eSIMs activate immediately upon installation, regardless of your location.

To check the activation policy before purchase, go to the Product description tab on the eSIM page.
