To submit a RICA application, you need:

  • Proof of ID
  • Proof of Address

You need one of two documents:

  • Green barcoded ID or ID card
  • Passport (make sure it hasn't expired)

Proof of Address is any document that shows your full name and the address where you live.

These include:

  • Bank statements
  • Rates and/or electricity accounts
  • Telephone accounts
  • TV licences
  • Insurance policies
  • Lease agreements

If you live in an informal settlement, you can submit a certified address of:

  • Your nearest school or community centre
  • Your church
  • A nearby retail store
  • Where you normally receive your post

In short, it helps fight crime. Criminals often use cellphones to plan and commit crimes. When personal details are linked to SIM cards, law enforcement can track down people involved in illegal activity. Communication can be intercepted across all networks.

Registering your SIM card is free.

Your personal details will be completely safe. All information you provide when you RICA your SIM card is kept in a secure database and can't be used for anything outside of what RICA is meant for.

Don't worry, you can still RICA your SIM card. Just go to your nearest Cell C store and someone will take you through the process, step by step. Don't forget to take your Proof of Identity and Proof of Address with you.
