Share your data bundle with your Cell C friends and family

Easily transfer your data to other Cell C users.

Data Transfer allows you to share your data with anyone on Cell C. Friends can share with friends, parents can share with kids, employers can share with employees, just about anyone can share their data.

You can send someone data from any data bundle you've purchased or from the inclusive data that is part of your contract.

Sending data is easy - you can do so using the Cell C App, by logging in to self-service on the web, or via USSD by dialling *147#. You can also request that someone send you data by dialling *112*1*[their Cell C phone number]#.

  • Cell C App: Log in > Main Menu > Services > Send Data > Select bundle > Enter amount and recipient number > Continue.
  • Website: Login > My Bundles > Send Data > Select bundle > Enter amount and recipient number > Continue.
  • USSD: Dial *147# > Option 3 (Send Data & Airtime) > Option 1 (Send Data) > Enter recipient number > Select bundle and amount > Confirm.

Who pays for the data that is sent?

The person who is sharing the data will pay for the data being transferred and their Data bundle will be depleted with the value shared.

What is the validity of the transferred data?

The data is transferred with the current validity. The person receiving the data can use the Cell C Rollover service should they need to extend the validity of the data they received.

When I am transferred a Data bundle, can I extend my expiry date?

The person receiving the data can use the Cell C Rollover service should they need to extend the validity of the data they received.

When can Data be shared?

Anytime, as long as the Data bundle that it is being shared from is still within its validity period.

How many times can I share data?

You can share data up to 3 times per day.

How can I make my Data transferring simple?

You can manage your beneficiaries by adding and deleting beneficiaries when you wish.

Can I transfer "Free" or "Bonus" data?

No. You can only transfer purchased bundles or inclusive contract data. Bonus data from recharges, promotional "Double Data," and social-specific bundles (like WhatsApp or Facebook bundles) cannot be transferred.

Can I send data to an FNB or Virgin Mobile number?

No. Data can only be transferred between direct Cell C customers. You cannot send data to MVNOs (Mobile Virtual Network Operators) like FNB Connect or Virgin Mobile, even if they use the Cell C network.

Can I reverse a transfer if I sent it to the wrong number?

No. Once a data transfer is confirmed and processed, it is final and cannot be reversed. Always verify the recipient's number before confirming.

Does the recipient get a notification?

Yes. Both the person sending the data and the person receiving it will receive an SMS confirmation once the transfer is successful.

How does the receiver check their new balance?

The recipient can check their balance by dialing *101# or *147#, or by viewing it in the "Balances" section of the Cell C App.

Why did my data transfer fail?

Common reasons include trying to transfer more than the 1GB monthly limit, exceeding 3 transfers in one day, attempting to share non-eligible "Bonus" data, or the recipient's number being inactive.

What is the difference between "Data Transfer" and "Airtime Share"?

Data Transfer sends a portion of your actual data bundle (in MB/GB). Airtime Share allows you to send Rand value (e.g., R10) from your airtime balance, which the recipient can then use to buy their own bundles or make calls.

CELL C TERMS & CONDITIONS FOR TRANSFER

According to the End-User Subscriber Service Charter Regulation, customers must be allowed to transfer data to other users on the same network. Transfer is only applicable to data.

Transfers are available to:

  • All TopUp, Postpaid, Upfront and Prepaid Cell C customers may transfer data to other TopUp, Postpaid, Upfront and Prepaid Cell C customers.
  • Customers are able to transfer to any active number on the Cell C network.

The following bundle types are allowed to transfer data:

  • Daily data bundles
  • Daily nite data bundles
  • 30-day data bundles
  • Monthly nite data bundles
  • Inclusive data (on voice and data contracts)
  • 365-day data bundles

Transfer will have the following limitations:

  • 1GB transfer limit per customer per month
  • Maximum 3 transfers per customer per day
  • All transfers are FREE
  • Data is transferred with the current expiry date
  • No extension of the expiry date happens on transfer
  • Data can be transferred multiple times
  • Subject to the Rollover Terms and Conditions, transferred data can be rolled over(i.e. have the validity extended) if it is from a bundle that is compatible with rollover
  • The person doing the transfer (A party) will receive a confirmation
  • The person receiving the transfer (B party) will receive a confirmation

The following bundle types are NOT allowed to transfer data:

  • Data given on recharge on prepaid plans like Easychat (MegaData) and
    SupaCharge.
  • Additional data that is added at no cost to the customer (i.e. free) onto voice and data contracts, both monthly and/or once-off.
  • Promotional data like the additional double data value on SmartData and the Nite Data on SmartData (i.e. data given on prepaid plans like SupaCharge / MegaData).
  • Any data added for the customer having responded to a campaign.
  • black data, including the black data on MegaBonus and MegaData and on Pinnacle and MediaPlay contracts.
  • ShoutOut data.
  • Customers are not able to transfer data to MVNO customers (for eg. FNB and Virgin Mobile) who are active on the Cell C Network,
  • Cell C MVNO customers (for eg. FNB and Virgin Mobile) cannot transfer data to Cell C customers

General

  1. You are responsible for managing your transfer on the various Cell C platforms, and you will be liable for any and all charges incurred (where applicable) should you choose to transfer your data (whether Prepaid, Hybrid, Upfront or Postpaid).
  2. It is important that you understand that all customers indemnify Cell C and its directors, affiliates, members, partners, employees, agents, consultants, suppliers, contractors and sponsors against any loss or damages, either direct, indirect, consequential or otherwise, arising from your use of Cell C's products and services.
  3. Cell C may amend, modify or otherwise change these terms and conditions in its sole and absolute discretion on notice to you and the amended version will be displayed in the same media as these terms and conditions. By continuing to make use of Cell C's products and services, you agree and understand that you will be bound by the amended terms and conditions.
